“What can cinema, its makers and its audiences do in such circumstances? A great deal. Selecting the programme for the 20th Festival of Tolerance in Zadar with Snježana Tribuson and Ivica Perinović, I felt anew the power of artistic expression in works that address the need for tolerance in distinctive and thought-provoking ways: from films for children about difficult social challenges such as losing a home, through stories of people driven from their countries by war, to authorities prepared to do anything to preserve their monopoly and privileges.”
