Cinema, education and public dialogue

The Festival of Tolerance connects international cinema, education, remembrance and public dialogue. Through screenings, Educational Mornings, Tolerance Talks and arts programmes, it explores human rights, discrimination, displacement and respect for difference. It welcomes film audiences, students, teachers and anyone interested in encountering experiences beyond their own.

Nataša Popović launched the festival in Zagreb in 2007, following an initiative by Vesna Domany Hardy and in collaboration with the UK Jewish Film Festival in London. Founded as the Jewish Film Festival, it took the name Festival of Tolerance in 2013. Jewish heritage and Holocaust remembrance remain central to its work. Producer and Holocaust survivor Branko Lustig served as honorary president from 2008, connecting the festival with the international film community.

Educational Mornings began in 2009 and Tolerance Talks in 2015. Zadar first hosted the festival in 2024. The organiser is the Zagreb Contemporary Jewish Film Festival Association, based in Zagreb and active in communities across Croatia.
