An extraordinary selection, award-winning films and Croatian premieres at the 17th Festival of Tolerance
At the seventeenth edition of the Festival of Tolerance, which will be held on January 23-27 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and on January 24-28, at Dokukino KIC cinema, this year we can expect a selection of more than 40 carefully selected and multiple award-winning films, and which the audience for the most part will not have the opportunity to see in regular cinema distribution.
This year's film programs are divided into four categories: Bite of Reality, Spectrum, Small Steps and Short Only, and the selection was made by Snježana Tribuson and Boško Picula with program advisor Dina Pokrajac.
When selecting films, the selectors paid special attention to films from the so-called of the world festival circuit, awarded at prestigious festivals. From the rich program of this year's festival, we highlight:
The bite of reality - documentaries
The Bite of Reality program shows eleven documentaries, and puts the quality, immediacy and actuality that a good documentary always has in the foreground. We highlight the film "20 days in Mariupol", by Msytslav Chernov, which won the audience award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
Spectrum - feature films
The Spectrum program brings us a selection of twelve globally relevant and significant feature films focused on topics such as the Holocaust, human rights and frequent social challenges, from which we would like to single out the drama "Disco Boy" by Giacomo Abbruzzes starring Leon Lučev, which was awarded for outstanding artistic achievement at this year's Berlinale, and the film "Small Body” (Piccolo Corpo) by Laura Samani, winner of the European Discovery Award - Prix FIPRESCI 2022.
We are also waiting for the winner of the prestigious Sundance Film Festival "A Thousand and One", directed by A.V. Rockwell, as well as "Summer with Hope" - winner at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2022.
Small steps - films for children and young people
The Small Steps program is dedicated to educational and instructive films for children and young people that encourage the development of critical thinking and media literacy, and among the four offered titles, "Chicken for Linda" (Chicken for Linda), which won the jury award for the best feature-length animated film at this year's Festival in Annecy 2023.
Just short - short films
Only a short time brings 14 short films, including the film "27", directed by Flóra Anna Buda, which was declared the best short film in Cannes and Annecy, "Caterpillars" (Les chenille), directed by Michelle Keserwany and Noel Keserwany, which was awarded as the best short film at the Berlinale, and "Stranger at the Gate" (Stranger at the Gate) by Joshua Seftel, behind which he was nominated for an Oscar and a special recognition at the Tribeca Film Festival.
